Privacy Policy

This site is run by Amazonian Plants LLC, a small family business in Tucson, Arizona. This page explains what information we collect when you visit amazonianplants.com or place an order, how we use it, and who we share it with - in plain language, because that is how we would want it explained to us.

What we collect

Orders. When you check out we ask for your name, email address, shipping address, and optionally a phone number and a separate billing address, and we keep a record of what you ordered. If you pay with PayPal, we instead receive your name, email, and shipping address from your PayPal account.

Payment details. We never see or store your card number. Card payments are handled by Authorize.net: your card details are encrypted in your browser and sent directly to them, and we only receive a payment confirmation. PayPal payments happen entirely on PayPal's side.

Reviews. If you leave a product review we collect your name, email address, rating, and the review text. We read every review before publishing it. Your name and review appear on the product page; your email address is never published.

Browsing data. Like most websites, we keep basic statistics about visits: pages viewed, the site that referred you, and a random visitor identifier stored in a cookie. Our own statistics do not store your IP address. The third-party analytics services listed below do their own collection, described in their policies.

Newsletter. If you sign up for our newsletter - in the site footer or with the optional one-click button after checkout - we collect your email address and, when you sign up after checkout, your name, so we can occasionally write to you about new plants, restocks, and new articles. Placing an order by itself does not add you to the list. There are still no customer accounts on this site, so we never ask you to register.

How we use your information

We use the information above to process and ship your order, email you an order confirmation and a shipping notification with tracking, send you our occasional newsletter if you signed up for it, answer your questions when you contact us, publish reviews you submit, prevent spam and fraud, and understand how the site is used so we can improve it. That is the full list.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the services we need to run the store, and only what each one needs:

• PayPal and Authorize.net process payments.
• Brevo delivers our order confirmation and shipping emails, and stores our newsletter mailing list - the email addresses of subscribers and, where provided, their names.
• Pirate Ship and USPS handle shipping. They receive your name, address, email, phone number, and order contents to create the shipping label and deliver your package.
• Google and Microsoft provide the analytics and advertising tools described below.
• Telegram delivers our internal order notifications to us, the owners. Those messages include your name, email address, and destination city.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it.

Cookies

We set a few cookies of our own:

• cart remembers what is in your shopping cart (kept for 30 days).
• ap_vid is a random visitor identifier used for our own site statistics (13 months).
• ap_ref remembers which site or ad brought you here, so we know what works (90 days).
• A security cookie protects our forms against cross-site request forgery, and a couple of short-lived helper cookies are used during checkout.

Third-party services such as Google, Microsoft Clarity, and PayPal set their own cookies, as described in their privacy policies. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site works without them, except that the cart needs its cookie to hold your items.

Analytics and advertising

We use Google Analytics, Google Ads, and Microsoft Advertising to understand how visitors find and use our site and to measure our advertising, and Microsoft Clarity to see how visitors interact with it through behavioral metrics, heatmaps, and session replay. These services use cookies and collect usage data such as pages visited and interactions on the site. Session replay masks what you type into forms - payment card details are never captured. After a purchase you may be offered the Google Customer Reviews survey. It is optional: only if you opt in are your email address and order details shared with Google so it can send you the survey.

Our checkout and review forms may be protected by Google reCAPTCHA to block automated spam.

Embedded videos

Some pages include YouTube videos. They load in YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode, and nothing is loaded from YouTube until you press play. Once you do, YouTube may collect data as described in the Google Privacy Policy.

How long we keep your data

We keep order records, including the customer details attached to them, for as long as we need them to run the business and to meet tax and accounting obligations. Our newsletter list keeps your email address until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove you. Published reviews stay on the site until we remove them. Our site statistics are not tied to your name or email address.

Your rights

Wherever you live - including the EU, UK, and California - you can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Every newsletter email also includes an unsubscribe link, and one click stops the emails. Email info@amazonianplants.com and we will take care of it. The one limit: we may need to keep records of completed orders for tax and legal reasons.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS, card details are encrypted in your browser and never touch our servers, and access to order information is limited to the two of us who run the store.

Children

Our store is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13.
